Museum Willet-Holthuysen

This mansion was built at the end of the Golden Age and inhabited by wealthy families. Take a look at the beautiful style rooms.

On one of the most beautiful canals of Amsterdam, the Herengracht, you will find this double mansion. The house was built in 1687 and over time inhabited by several wealthy families. Abraham Willet and his wealthy wife Sandrina Louisa Geertruyda Holthuysen lived there from 1861 to 1895. Louisa left the house and its precious contents to the municipality of Amsterdam after her death. Her last wish was that her house be opened as a museum and that it would be named after her and her husband. This happened and now Museum Willet Holthuysen has been visiting for more than a century. In the canal house you can take a look at impressive 18th and 19th century style rooms. Imagine yourself in beautiful ballrooms, see the kitchen that gives a picture of the daily work of the staff and marvel at the symmetrical French style garden.
