This Rotterdam icon is 800 metres long and 139 metres high. Thanks to the bent asymmetrical steel pylon, the bridge is also known as 'The Zwaan'.
Designed by UN Studio architect Ben Berkel, the bridge opened in 1996, connecting the city centre with the new Kop van Zuid district. Design was taken as a starting point for the bridge and it was then examined whether the various designs were technically feasible. The Erasmusbrug is therefore a beautiful interplay of art and technology and can be counted in the architectural style Supermodernism.
