In the past, this historic building in the centre of Purmerend served as an orphanage for wealthed civilian children.
The civilian orphanage was built at the end of the 16th, early 17th century. Over time, the beautiful building has had many different functions such as orphanage, guest house for the sick, school, youth shelter, bank, restaurant and delicatessen. Above the front door is a scene with some neatly dressed and playing children and on the left in the foreground the father of the orphanage.
