De Markt is the bustling heart of Eindhoven and has been part of the city since the settlement. Especially since 1232 (when Eindhoven acquired city and market rights), the square played an important role for trade. Various markets took place regularly. This is still the case today to a lesser extent. Every Saturday there is a small antique market. Furthermore, the square is now a place of togetherness and cosiness. The many terraces and restaurants give the Markt a social function.
