Originally Gothic, this city gate is located at the point where the three rivers, the Oude Maas, the Merwede and the North meet.
The striking city gate has its origins from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and gained its Renaissance appearance during the renovation of 1618. Above the passage you can see the Maeght van Dordrecht, seated in a garden. The fence symbolizes its unmarried state and the impregnability of the city of Dordrecht. Around her are depicted the weapons of several Dutch cities.
