Located on the beautiful Hofvijver you visit Museum de Gevangenpoort. Experience the exciting stories of crime and punishment in past times. In the 15th century, the 'Voorpoort van den Hove' became a prison. Defaulters were imprisoned there and suspected criminals waited for trial. A century later, the gate expanded with the gajols (cells) and the courthouse. The gajols, where suspects were locked up, were cold and cold. Since 1882, the prison has been transformed into a museum and as a visitor you will discover what it used to be like to be locked up.
