In the centre of The Hague you will find a special area called Chinatown. The neighbourhood is spread around the Nieuwe Kerk, in the area between the Amsterdam Veerkade, the Wagenstraat and the Gedempte Burgwal. In the old days there was the Hague Jewish neighbourhood, which was impoverished and deflated after the Second World War. In the 1970s, the district was refurbished and more and more Chinese settled there. Later it was named Chinatown. Now there is a mix of Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese culture nearby. At the beginning of Chinatown, in the Wagenstraat, there are two beautiful Chinese gates that give access to the area. You will find countless eateries, Chinese supermarkets, tokos and Chinese restaurants.
